I’d like to talk a little bit about why strength training can help you fight Osteoporosis, but first let me tell you about this degenerative condition.
Osteoporosis is a degenerative bone condition. The word itself is born from two Greek words meaning “bone” and “hole”. The condition is characterized by weaker bones which are more prone to breaking. Did you know that your bones are constantly in the process of tearing and rebuilding themselves? It takes roughly 6 months for a bone to completely replace itself.
The above picture shows a prime example of the difference between healthy bone and Osteoporitic bone. You see, as we grow older (starting in our late twenties) our bones become less and less efficient at rebuilding themselves. The end result can be a much less dense and thus weaker skeletal system.
